Abstract

Considering the benefits of cleaner energy production and dependence upon fossil fuels, bioethanol is an emerging renewable biofuel and also important for industrial biotechnology. This study assessed production, technological, economic and sustainability factors affecting the bioethanol growth from a structured data set of 2000 observations. Feedstock yield, production capacity, processing technology efficiency, energy use, feedstock cost, transportation cost, distribution cost, carbon emissions, water use, market demand, price per gallon, government incentive status, and bioethanol growth were all variables. Descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, independent-samples t-test, chi-square analysis, and multiple linear regression were used. The outcomes revealed that most of the production, economic and sustainability variables were weakly associated with the bioethanol growth. Only the processing technology efficiency proved to be statistically significantly linked to bioethanol development and that only in a small measure. There was no significant difference between the mean value of bioethanol growth for the different incentive status of the government. Only a small percentage of the overall variation was accounted for by the regression model, which suggests that other biological and process-specific factors may affect production performance. The results indicate that optimal bioethanol production and utilization should be considered from multiple aspects, including technology efficiency, feedstock utilization, economic analysis, sustainability indicators and fermentation related aspects. In the future, the studies should be performed in conjunction with microbial, enzymatic and operational parameters to increase the understanding of bioethanol production efficiency.
